The stall sells Laksa, Mee Rebus and Mee Siam. Daniel Soo has been running this stall with his wife for 12 years. Today we are here on a food tasting session by OpenRice.

The signature dish for today is Fruit Juice Crayfish Mee Siam ($6).

Mee Siam, which means “Siamese noodle”, is a dish of thin rice noodles ( vermicelli ) in spicy, sweet and sour light gravy. It is a common one-dish meal in Singapore and Malaysia.

For the version served here, no Assam water (processed tamarind juice) is added. Instead replaced with “Secret Ingredients”, which cannot be revealed which I think is fresh lime juice. Tastes more tangy and sour than usual. Light and fresh too.

The owner also shares with us about his 2 other dishes on the menu. The Mee Rebus has potato added. Interesting, what has potato got to do with the dish. Make the gravy thick? But I am quite full already, will check out another time. As for the Laksa, it took his whole morning to make the gravy.

Thank you OpenRice and Estelle for inviting me. I have never tasted such unique Mee Siam before.
