Bar-Roque Grill

Bar-Roque Grill is a modern rotisserie and bar that is all about fun and togetherness. It is headed by Chef Stephane, formerly Executive Chef of DB Bistro Modern at Marina Bay Sands.

The restaurant is located at the corner of Amara Hotel. The 90 seaters restaurant has cosy indoor seating, as well as, relaxing outdoor terrance. The place looks quite dimmed, but we are lucky to be showed to a table just under the spot light.

The ceiling is rather high with a huge mirror and painting decorating the wall. The tables are quite near to each other.

The choices on the menu look good, priced $35++ per person for dinner during Restaurant Week.

We start with :

20131008-132125.jpg
Roasted Tomato Soup, Basil & Extra Virgin Olive Oil which tastes quite thick, and

20131008-131938.jpg
Country Duck Terrine, House Made Pickles & Mustard which tastes a bit too dry. I wish there is more toasts too.

On of that, we also have an additional order of

Tart Flambee ($12)
The Classic – Bacon & Onions
Simple topping on the thin and crispy bread dough crust. Simple and delicious.

As for main course :

20131008-112238.jpg20131008-112257.jpg
Alsatian Choucroute Home Made Sauerkraut, Pork Belly, Smoked Sausage & Mustard Braised Pork which has quite tender pork belly, but the braised pork is a bit too tough ( not to my liking of taste too ). The serving is huge, especially with the amount of Sauerkraut under the meat, which I cannot finish it.

20131008-112033.jpg
Slow Baked Salmon with Mint Tabbouleh, Cucumber, Tomato, Red Onion & Virgin Sauce which my dinning mate remarks that it is a bit too raw for her.

Lastly for desserts, there is :

20131008-111805.jpg
Apple Pie “Mom’s Recipe” Cinnemon Crumble, which has soft apple slices, but letdown by a lack of cinnamon taste and too soft and dry crust. It seems to be a case of not enough butter for the pastry by its too flour texture.

20131008-111231.jpg
Traditional Creme Brulee which is served cold and in a quite shallow dish. 😦 (Sorry I like mine warm and hot).

Total damages : $96.51

Overall we are wowed by the place but not the food. Serving is big. Service is a bit slow. Have to call for refill of water. Food is served quite fast except for dessert. Please note that restaurant has no restroom. If one has needs, need to use the hotel’s.
