Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant 南翔饅頭店

Nanxiang is a famed dumpling restaurant, origins from Shanghai. It serves the authentic Shanghainese xiao long bao the traditional way. The restaurant is decorated in a modern Chinese style with white all over the place.

King Sized Crab Roe Soup Bun ($7.80)

One should never leave this restaurant without trying its King Sized Crab Roe Soup Bun. Served pipping hot with a giant sized straw in the centre for one to suck. If cut opens, one can see the huge amount of crab roe floating on top of the soup.

Crab Roe & Pork Steamed Bun ($12.80)

Another hot favourite with most is the juicy xiao long bao with thin skin.

Chilled Tofu with Preserved Vegetables ($4.80)

The bean curd is thinly sliced and topped with the flavourful preserved vegetables which we feel tastes like oilves. A simple and tasty dish.

Dried Scallop with Shredded Egg Soup ($7.00)

The soup is very flavourful. Somehow I feel having crab meat soup, especially with the very tender texture of the scallops.

Lion Head Soup ($6.80)

This soup comes highly recommended by the staff. The meatball is very tender and juicy, with no hint of porky smell. Very tasty soup.

‘Hua Niang’ Wine Steamed Cod Fish ($15.50)

A simple and light tasty dish.

Salted Egg Yolk Prawn Ball ($14.80)

It is crispy and abit salty with the salted egg sauce on the outside. Inside it is filled with juicy and crunchy prawns.

Fried Vegetable Rice ($7.70)

From the first look, it looks like a plate of fried rice with a lot of chopped xiao bai cai, but it is not a vegetarian dish. There is another version of it which is vegetarian. Inside the fried rice, you can also find thin and tender slices of shabu shabu cut style salted pork.

Golden Pumpkin Cake ($4.00)

Similar to the chinese traditional Ham Chin Peng ( Savoury Pancake ), but it is served puffs up like a balloon with much thinner and chewy skin.

Almond Bird Nest ($35)

The most expensive dish of entire meal, but I can tell it is worth ordering for. The almond paste is very well made – smooth, rich and not too sweet. The bird nest provides another form of texture when having with the paste.

Total damages (includes 4 servings of chinese tea, excluding wet tissue and peanut as those have asked to be removed) : $141.36
