Platypus Kitchen

Our next pit stop is a newly opened restaurant. This place is known for its handmade pasta. None of the items on the menu is above $20. You can have a set meal from $16.90.

Very stylish bar counter.

Served beer cocktails for drink.

SMITH’S ALE ($9.90/ ala carte, $6.90/ with set)
Larger beer infused with green apples and lemons, then garnished with fresh apples, lemon and passion fruit (2.9% ABV)
MOMO-LYCHEE ALE ($9.90/ ala carte, $6.90/ with set)
Larger beer flavoured with fresh peach and lychee nectar, then garnished with mint sprigs and fresh lychees (2.9% ABV)
Both drinks somehow remind me of canned frizzy apple juice.

For appetizers, we are served

CRAB CAKES ($12.90)
Three potato fritters stuffed with large chunks of crab claw meat, deep fried and served with lemon.
Full of crab meat inside, but seems to be lacking of something.
RISOTTO BALLS ($8.90)
Mozzarella-stuffed balls of risotto, breaded in panko then deep fried and served over of rich pumpkin puree.
Nice but I would prefer it to be more cheesy and crispy.
TRUFFLE FRIES ($6.90)
Thick cut French fries seasoned with white truffle oil and topped with shaved truffles.
The fries are really good with a good amount of truffles on top. Very well valued for money.
For main course :
PRESSED PORK BELLY ($19.90)
Melt in your mouth pork belly served with braised apples, garden vegetables and a honey & clove apple glaze.
The apple cubes are braised until soft and sweet. Even the sauce has a strong hint of apple. Very tender pork, with the fatty part melt in the mouth feeling.

Followed by seasonal pastas and risottos

SAFFRON & CAVIAR RISOTTO ($19.90)
Saffron infused risotto with char-grilled prawns and scallops then finished with sustainable caviar and fine herbs.
Very well cooked risotto.
SQUID-INK SCALLOPS RAGOUT($16.50)
Squid-ink Tagliolini served with seared bay scallops in a light garlic-sauce
Very light dish with juicy cherry tomatoes.
SPICY ‘DIABLO’ CRAB & PRAWN ($18.50)
Egg Tagliolini with prawns and crab claw tossed in a spicy egg sauce.
Nice but feel the spiciness is abit overpowering.
TRUFFLE CARBONARA ($16.50)
Egg Tagliatelle with double-smoked bacon and mushrooms in a truffle egg-yolk sauce.
The sauce is just nice, not too creamy that you will feel clotting.

Lastly for dessert, we have

Iced Sea Salt Caramel
Sea salt & caramel butter cream, chocolate peanut butter brittle, ganache and popping candy.
Very interesting of having popping feeling in your mouth, while eating this dessert. Feel like a kid again.
There is also something for takeaway.

A cookbook by the guy who gives us an introduction to his restaurant.

Autograph session.

Everyone queuing up to get one before leaving.

I think I would visit this place again, maybe dinner after book club next month, for its good food at reasonable prices.
