Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant

Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant is a traditional Shanghai eatery located in the City God Temple precinct in the old Chinese section of the city. It was established in 1900. Nanxiang is a town near Shanghai where the xiaolong mantou was invented. The restaurant has more recently expanded internationally, with branches in South Korea and Japan. It is Shanghai’s most celebrated pork and crabmeat xiao long bao (steamed dumplings) eatery.

The outlet in Bugis has a distinctive décor that features the iconic ‘zhen long’ (bamboo baskets) used for steaming buns. Diners can enjoy the delectable tastes of Shanghai in a comfortable and modern Chinese atmosphere. In addition to an extensive selection of “xiao long bao”, Nanxiang boasts an extensive menu of over 60 tantalizing dishes. To preserve the culinary standards and authenticity of Nanxiang , veteran chefs from the original restaurant in shanghai are deployed here in Singapore!

King Sized Nanxiang Crab Roe Steamed Soup Bun ($7.80)
The star of this meal. First time it in Singapore. You are to drink the soup through the straw. Be care as it is very hot.

Full of crab roe in the soup. Feel the skin of this version is thinner than the one I had back in the Shanghai’s Yu Yuan outlet.

Crab Roe & Pork Filling Xiao Long Bao ($13.80/ 6pcs)

Crab Roe Fen Pi
Fen Pi (粉皮) is usually eaten cold as a starter. Surprise to it in a hot dish here. Tastes like very silky hor fan which flows easily down your throat.

Braised Crab Roe ‘Lion Head’ ($13.80/ 3pcs)
Made of pork, it quite juicy and none of porky smell.
